Welcome to your first issue of Edible Palm Beach magazine. Starting 2014 with the launch of a new business is a thrill for me. I saw my first Edible magazine in Buffalo, NY. It was love at first read, and it got me thinking. Could this beautiful publication possibly be the way to combine my passions for entrepreneurship, technology and social innovation into a new career?
I’ve been blessed with diverse career experiences – in the law as a civil litigator, in business as a consultant and coach, and in nonprofit and community work as an executive, a volunteer, and a social entrepreneur. Reading Edible Buffalo, and exploring the Edible Communities network across the US and Canada, compelled me to start a new chapter in my career as the publisher and editor of Edible Palm Beach.
Our stories will showcase the farmers, growers, fishers, home cooks, chefs, artisans and others who energize our culinary community across Palm Beach, Okeechobee, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties, season by season. We’ll also feature entrepreneurs and thought leaders in our community who are pioneering programs, products, policies and technologies to innovatively grow, package, distribute, deliver, cook, serve, and share local food.
Edible Palm Beach is launching at an exciting time for our region. There is growing awareness that Florida ranks near the bottom of states that support and consume local food. Yet we have an abundance of fresh produce, that we ship to feed the Northeast and Midwest during the winter months from Florida’s millions of acres of agricultural land and thousands of working farms.
Edible Palm Beach, and the four other Florida Edible magazines serving Sarasota, Tampa Bay, Orlando and Miami-Dade/Broward, are dedicated to changing that trend.
